Family Violence Counsellor

  • TRP $123,036 per annum including superannuation and the estimated benefit of full optional salary packaging. Cash Salary - $101,129 per annum or $51.0037 per hour. Superannuation 12% of cash salary. Eligible for salary packaging benefit - $15,990 (Gross value of full benefit of optional salary packaging after tax - up to $9,771)

Reporting to the Manager, Family Safety Services (FSS), the Family Violence Counsellor delivers evidence-based counselling to support the wellbeing and recovery of victim survivors, including women and children. The role facilitates access to services and contributes to coordinated, multi-agency responses to complex needs, including whole-of-family approaches where appropriate. This includes working within an integrated model that supports accountability for adults using family violence.

All counselling is client-centred, strengths-based, and trauma-informed. Counsellors demonstrate advanced capability in risk assessment, safety planning, and application of the MARAM Framework and Information Sharing Schemes to minimise risk and enhance victim survivor safety.

As per the minimum mandatory qualifications requirements via https://www.vic.gov.au/mandatory-minimum-qualifications-specialist-family-violence-practitioners all candidates wishing to apply for this role must be able to demonstrate that they:

  • are considered exempt under the policy, or
  • hold a Bachelor of Social Work or other equivalent qualification, or
  • have minimum 5 years relevant professional experience OR a related qualification as per the mandatory minimum qualification requirements, or
  • hold significant cultural knowledge and experience or lived experience and have faced barriers to educational pathway
